American Cruise Lines’ newest ship, American Symphony, is sailing the Mississippi River this summer & fall.
By Sarah Etinas

This August, American Cruise Lines’ American Symphony will set sail for the first time. This brand new ship will make its way along the United States’ most famous waterway: the Mississippi River.

Make Your Way onto the American Symphony

Once you step onboard American Symphony, you’ll immediately see the interior design. From calming color palettes to unique textured pieces, you’ll enjoy discovering all of the new touches the American Cruise Lines’ team has added.

On top of its new design features, the American Symphony has many classic American Cruise Lines favorites. Enjoy your daily breakfast room service on your private balcony, munch on freshly baked cookies in the Sky Lounge, enjoy the complimentary cocktail hour in the River Lounge and take in the cityscapes as you stroll along the Sky Walk.

All of that said, some of the best parts of booking a cruise on the American Symphony are the ports of call. This summer and fall, this ship is cruising on the Mississippi River on three noteworthy itineraries.

Exploring Along the Mississippi River

One of the most incredible itineraries currently offered aboard the American Symphony is the Complete Mississippi River Cruise, which lasts 22 days and runs all the way up the Mississippi River. Starting in New Orleans, Louisiana and ending St. Paul, Minnesota, this cruise makes many interesting stops along the way.

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, you can see loads of wildlife on a boat ride through the Manchac Swamp. Then, there’s Memphis, Tennessee, where you can visit Elvis Presley’s Graceland. Of course, St. Louis, Missouri is known for the iconic Gateway Arch. Further up the river stop in Hannibal, Missouri, and relive the adventures of Mark Twain’s time in his boyhood hometown. Finally, in St. Paul, Minnesota there is no better way to experience the “City of Lakes” than on a carefully curated excursion.

Focus on the Lower Mississippi

If 22 days is simply too long for you, opt for American Cruise Lines’ Lower Mississippi cruise instead. This eight-day itinerary journeys from New Orleans, Louisiana to Memphis, Tennessee, or vice versa.

Like every American Cruise Line cruise, there’s no shortage of things to do in the ports of call. Admire the antebellum architecture at the Houmas House, enjoy southern hospitality in Natchez, learn about the Civil War in Vicksburg, and explore the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll in Memphis.

Round Trip Route from New Orleans

Last but certainly not least, the American Symphony boasts a fantastic route that runs round trip from New Orleans. Known as the Highlights of the Mississippi River cruise, this five-day itinerary takes guests to some of the most interesting waterfront cities in Louisiana.

You can learn about the Civil War battle at Bayou Lafourche, visit the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge, learn the history behind Oak Alley Plantation in Oak Alley, and taste the best Creole dishes that New Orleans has to offer.
