The Western Canadian province prairie land transforms in the winter months offering many exciting winter-weather activities from snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobile rides, and more.

These are the top six Saskatchewan winter destinations.

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

This forested area transforms under a blanket of snow that leaves the pine and white spruce trees of the Cypress Hills looking mystical. Common winter-weather activities in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park include cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the 17 km of trails in the park’s Centre Block. Book a few days in the area so you’ll also have time to enjoy the thrill of tobogganing. There are designated areas in the Centre Block where you can get out in the elements on a snowmobile.

Moose Mountain Provincial Park

For breathtaking scenic nature views opt to visit Moose Mountain Provincial Park which is dotted with small lakes and incredible viewpoints. Get out on the extensive trail system in the southern Saskatchewan forest. Choose from 100 km of groomed snowmobile trails, 50 km of ski trails, and 10 km of snowshoe trails.

Greenwater Lake Provincial Park

Get off the beaten path with a winter-centric adventure on a snowmobile in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park. Tucked away in central Saskatchewan, the park offers fresh untouched powder on some of the best snowmobile trails in the province. Expect incredible scenery on the snowmobile trails as well as on the 25 km of cross-country ski trails. Tobogganing and skating are also popular activities.

Great Blue Heron Provincial Park

The next day, head out on the Lakeland snowmobile trail system to explore some of the 350 km of groomed trails in Great Blue Heron Provincial Park. Trails range from 7 km to 120 km in length, so riders can choose how long of a journey they’re wanting. For longer rides, make pit stops at warmup shelters and enjoy hot chocolate.

Prince Albert National Park

For an upscale retreat stay at the resort village of Waskesiu near Prince Albert National Park. From your base of Hawood Inn, Lost Creek Resort, or Kapasiwin Bungalows you can explore winding trails that start in town on rented cross-country skis or snowshoes. If you prefer to avoid the elements of winter you can still enjoy ice skating at the indoor ice rink at the Paul G. Horne Memorial Arena.
